From best selling and award winning author Stacey Rourke comes the heart-pounding continuation of the acclaimed Gryphon Series.
SYNOPSIS:
The turning point of the Gryphon saga is at hand …

Battle looms. Three unstoppable forces prepare to clash in a colossal explosion that could wipe Gainesboro off the map. Fate and a sacred calling have landed nineteen year old Celeste Garrett in the middle with nowhere to run.

Her trust wavers as she uncovers dark secrets of the Council, powerful enough to test her loyalty and turn her against those she swore to protect. Playing to the longing of her heart, a malevolent enemy uses her weakness against her to form an alliance.

With the trumpets of war about to sound, which side will the Conduit choose, and who will be left standing?

EXCERPT:

 Blood pooling.

Seeping.

Merging.

Swirling together to form a detailed map of carnage.

“Tsk, tsk, tsk.” The Countess pursed her full lips in a mock pout. “And to think he was trying to save you. You must feel simply dreadful right now.”

Anger quickened my breath making each word come out a breathless gasp. “Shut … up.”

“Why’s that?” She rested her palms on her ample hips and let her head fall to the side in a flowing curtain of scarlet. “Don’t feel like talking about it? Can’t say that I blame you. Here he was marching over here so gallantly to protect you while you called him names and berated him. That’s evil even by my standards and I make a viable vocation out of this.”

One stride into a forward charge toward certain death, I froze. My shocked heart lurched into an awkward stutter beat. The cause of my surprise? Rowan, rolling to his side and yanking the dagger from his gut. The Countess’s painted lips pulled back in a sneer.

Heels clicked across the floor with sharp snaps as she strode straight for him. “I hate it when people don’t have the courtesy to die the first time you kill them.”

With the stiletto heel of her boot, she pinned Rowan’s wrist to the floor … then stomped. Rowan howled and writhed as blood spurted from his wound. His injured hand loosened around the hilt. Before the blade could clank to the ground, the vile enchantress scooped it up. Flipping it in her hand, she arched back for the death blow.

Nooooo!!”  I channeled everything inside me. Pulling every emotion that ravaged me throughout this god-awful day into my core, I raised both hands and hit her with the full force of my telepathic fury.

The dagger flew from her hand as she pin-wheeled into the darkness.

I rushed to Rowan’s side and eased him to a sitting position. “Row? Rowan?”

It took a minute for his sleepy gaze to find me. Even then his dilated pupils hinted consciousness would be fleeting. In the distance came a soft thud. The Countess must’ve found the other side of this massive hall. My little stunt bought us seconds only.

“Row?” My fingers dug into his shoulders as I attempted to shake him awake. “Can you teleport? I don’t know any other way out of here and we need to go now!”

In place of an answer, his eyes rolled back and his head lulled to the side.

Like rapid-fire gunshots, her heels clicked closer, building around us in an ominous echo.

I slapped Rowan softly once, then a second time with more vigor. “Rowan! Come on! One little poof then you can pass out! I promise! Just get us out of here!”

He woke with a jerk, a protective passion rising on his face. His tensed features sharpened. Turquoise eyes blazed as his injured hand weaved into my hair and pulled me to him. Blood dripped down the back of my neck and dampened my hair, yet pulling away never occurred to me. His lips brushed mine with a tentative question—a plea for acceptance. I hesitated for a fraction of a second before consenting with a resounding mutual urgency. Locked in each other’s embrace, we disappeared in a cloud of smoke.

ABOUT STACEY:

There is nothing worse than being put on the spot and asked to talk about yourself. For me it brings back that inevitable moment in a new school when the teacher would ask me to stand up, introduce myself and tell the class something about myself. I was always worried I would blurt out something stupid that I would get teased for. Something like, “My name’s Stacey and I like pickles!” Then for the rest of the school year I’d be known as the Pickle Girl and let’s be honest, no one wants that. So to avoid such a faux pas I will simply say that I love to write. It allows me to get my crazy out just enough that I can function as a normal member of society.

The demonic and fantasy elements of the Conduit’s journey will jump off the page thanks to Robert Immings;

Make it Mondays

Happy Monday, all!  I hope you had a great weekend and are not too stuffed from all the candy.  As the weather decides to get colder here in Ohio, I thought I would share some hats I have made.   Let me know what you think!

Butterfly Hat

Butterfly Hat! I made this hat because I thought it was cute.  I had my sister try it on my niece to see if it would fit her and I never saw the hat again.  I guess she liked it!

I made this hat for a gift exchange and decided to try out a cowl.  I added to the number of stitches at the bottom of the hat to figure out my dimensions and then just stitched away.  The receiver liked the hat, but I have never seen a pic of them with it on.  I could only hope it fit.

Santa Test

This was a fun pattern test I did for CrochetbyPalm.  They have an Etsy shop with some really cute patterns.

Scooby

Scooby

And last but not least, one of my all time favorite hats.  I made him for my nephew who loves Scooby.  Thinking about doing a graph-ghan of scooby for him.  But that will have to wait.

I have put the links to the patterns in the pics.  Just click the pic and you will be directed to where I found the patterns.  I hope you find something you like and make one of your own.  Would love to see your pics.  Feel free to share.

Excerpt

“Where is he?” he growled, doing a circle. “Where is he?”

“I … I think he’s gone,” Ana croaked, fighting not to give into the fainting sensation beckoning her to sway into its arms.

Rafe hurried over to her and took her hand. “Come on!”

She let herself be dragged up the path to the house, positive she would never have made it there on her own.

On the porch, he stopped and faced to her, his eyes intense. “Get inside and lock the door.”

Ana wanted to laugh. If she could’ve stopped shivering, stopped her teeth from chattering, her heart from going crazy in her chest, she would have reminded him that a closed door didn’t apply to ghosts. That locked or not, it wouldn’t stop that thing from getting inside. But there was something else, another reason that going inside wouldn’t help.

“He’s in there,” she told him, tears suddenly burning her eyes. Her bottom lip trembled.

“What?” He yanked her away from the open door and thrust her behind him. “Where?”

She sniffled, wanting so desperately to just bury her face into the planes of his back and cry. “In my room,” she whispered, absolutely certain of this now. “He’s inside my walls.”

It no longer mattered if he thought her insane. Her problems were so much bigger, so much more frightening. Plus, was she crazy if he’d seen it too? If he’d fought it? Was she still insane?

Rafe didn’t look disbelieving. He looked horrified and angry. His eyes widened, darting between her and the door. “What was that thing, Ana?”

“I don’t know!” she cried, no longer able to stop the flood of tears that washed down her face, mixing with the pond water. “I don’t know! I don’t know! I thought I was crazy. I thought … I’m not crazy! You saw him. You saw him, didn’t you? I’m not—”

She was suddenly in his arms, held so tight it was almost impossible to breathe. But it wasn’t close enough.

“Shh,” he whispered into her temple. “You’re not crazy. I saw him, too.”

Celebrating the end of a trilogy is bittersweet. I love all the characters in the Whisper Cape series, but Cael and Addison own my heart and always will. Without them, I don’t think I would have become an author. At least not a published one. A Secret Fate, book three is now available.

A powerful woman, an extraordinary man, and a maniac who wants to destroy them. Fate has brought them together, but will it make them stronger or destroy them all in end?

Escape to a world where the impossible becomes possible and sparks ignite.

WHISPER CAPE is a town of secrets and Addison MacKenna soon becomes tangled in a web of them. Plagued with nightmares of her father’s sudden and brutal death, Addie struggles with her anguish and refuses to believe his demise was accidental.

Fighting to shake off one of those devastating early morning nightmares, Addison finds it even harder to escape from the vision of a man lying on the side of the road–a man she may have just killed. When she frantically tries to locate him, he seemingly disappears, just the beginning of strange occurrences in her life. She also cannot ignore the weird sensations in her own body. Suddenly, the impossible seems possible, but is that a blessing or a curse?

Believing that her continual and worsening nightmares are both the key to her own new abilities and the clue to her father’s death, Addie knows she will not rest until she has the answers she craves. As she strives to cope with her new remarkable talents, someone else learns of her abilities–a disgruntled maniacal psychopath with his own agenda that involves eliminating Addie. The only one who can protect her, instruct her in the use of her powers and teach her how to destroy the murderous monster is the same man who makes Addie’s heart race and her blood heat with passion. The same man she’d left for dead.

Cael Sheridan may be arrogant and mysterious but he’s also undeniably gorgeous. A member of a secret society, he is sworn to protect the woman he believes to be the daughter of his recently murdered mentor. In the process, he finds it impossible to resist her magnetic sensuality, complicating his efforts to shield and guide her as she learns to manage her newly acquired skills. At the same time, Addison has much to teach him about trust and commitment. Will fate win in the end? You be the judge.

Reflections (Whisper Cape book 2)

Publication Date: October 8, 2012

Book 2 in the Steamy Paranormal Romance/Suspense, Whisper Cape Series

What if you heard a voice whispering warnings while you coped with a frightening pregnancy?

Knowing the future has its advantages…or does it?

Can love survive the reflections and memories lost?

Welcome to Maia’s world.

Gerry has loved Maia from the very first moment he laid eyes on her and now that she’s pregnant with his child, he’s over the moon with happiness. Likewise, Maia is overjoyed about having Gerry’s baby, but when she starts seeing and hearing an old woman who warns Maia about the pregnancy, Maia starts to think she is losing her mind. But Maia’s nightmare has only just begun…

A beautiful woman, the talented lead singer in an up and coming rock band, sets her sights on Gerry determined to rekindle an old flame. But murder befalls the sleepy town of Whisper Cape once again, creating suspicion and betrayal, and a love once considered invincible, begins to crumble and fall apart.

Excerpt from Reflections:

Gerry sat up and rubbed his shoulder. “Thanks, Addie.” He followed her gaze to the place where they had last seen Cael. It pained him, but finally he said, “Addie. Maybe he can’t get back.”

“You don’t think Finn shot him, do you? Cael is strong.”

Gerry shook his head but wasn’t sure if she noticed. “No.”

“Once he got him away from here, I’m sure he used his skills,” she said. “I mean, Cael could take Finn in a fight anytime.”

“He might not be able to come back.” Gerry brushed a strand of hair out of Addie’s face.

“What? What do you mean?” She stood and Gerry got up with her. He moaned a little from the pain and stood next to her.

“I don’t think he got shot. I’m not sure exactly what happened to Cael. When the bullet hit me, I lost balance. He might have received some of my …”

“What? No!” Her face paled and she fought to take in air.

“Breathe,” he said, stroking her back as Maia walked up and stood by her other side.

“I don’t understand.” Her voice was barely a whisper. She walked to where Cael had wrestled with Finn. “What sort of memory were you sending?”

“That’s the problem.” Gerry shook his head. He didn’t want to have to tell Addie that she might never see Cael again.

Just what she needs, more secrets and on top of everything else, someone stole the crystal. How is she supposed to get over the loss of her lover, a lover she’d barely had for only a few short months and deal with the secret of the lost crystal at the same time?

Aiden wants nothing more than to help Addie overcome her grief and get over Cael. Or is that all he wants? What happens when too many people know the secret and someone slips up?

Teaser Excerpt from A Secret Fate

He lay half on top of
her, their legs tangled together on the sofa as their rapid heartbeats slowly
returned to normal. He didn’t want to move or let her go, but he’d have to. He
needed to get up and leave. How would he ever look Aiden in the eye again? What
a mess he’d gotten himself into this time.
She sighed. “That was
amazing.” Resting her head on his chest, she leaned her face to his and kissed
him, gently, softly, then closed her eyes and rested her head. They stayed that
way, silent, for a while.

About Susan
I grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania, spending most of my time daydreaming or playing around in the mud. I grew out of the mud play, well, most of the time, a good soak in the mud is always fun. I still daydream often and sometimes my daydreams interrupt my daydreams. So I write to remember them. If I didn’t write, I think my mind would explode from an overload of fantasy and weirdness. To the annoyance of my friends and family, my characters sometimes become a part of my world. During my childhood, I would frequently get in trouble in school for daydreaming. Eventually, my vivid imagination paid off and I had the privilege of writing and co-directing my sixth-grade class play—a dreadful disaster, though not from my writing, of course. I’m pretty sure it was the acting.I enjoy writing about characters living in small quaint towns and tend to lean toward the unusual and edgy.My paranormal playing field delves into a different milieu, abandoning vampires and werewolves, but not discounting them. Someday I might like to write a novel about vamps and those furry creatures. But for now I like the bizarre mixed with romance. A strong hero or heroine confronted with extraordinary forces of nature, powers and capabilities gets my blood running hot as does an steamy contemporary romantic suspense.Author Links:Blog | Website | Facebook | Twitter | Goodreads | Amazon Author Page
